Dr. ASSAF SUBERRY conducts on site research at the Charles E. Smith Life Communities, studying the work of the Iris Piano Trio as part of a larger research project. Dr. Suberry is a musician and social gerontologist whose work explores how music creates connection, healing, and community. His previous research projects include educational and musical interventions to reduce ageism. As faculty member at the Erickson School of Aging Studies at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), Assaf uses an anthropological lens to explore the role of music in senior living communities. His projects examine how shared musical experiences can deepen belonging, support older persons, and strengthen intergenerational ties. Assaf developed the Musical Listening Circles model, using meaningful songs and stories to strengthen connection and belonging among older persons. He also teaches the course AGNG 415: The Art of Aging at UMBC.
